Ramen is Missionary Food Storage

Monday, October 27, 2014

Hey everyone,

Yes I got the package thank you! It has some pretty delicious stuff in there.   More food like that would be awesome.  A camelback backpack would be cool. Like one that can also hold some stuff in it.

They got Airmaybe to work so we now have our correct area.

I don’t need a filtered water bottle. They gave us one but all apartments have a filter so I haven’t used it yet. Maybe a good supply of some water purification tablets would be nice to have before I get sent to an outer island. There is supposed to be filters in outer islands but you never know if it’s ok because people can't really conveniently go check all the time if you get what I’m saying.

I should be able to Skype on Christmas or around there I don’t know exactly how it works. I’ll give more information when I find out. The mission president said that this is how he tries to do it, 4 Areas, 8 companions. You will probably be on an outer island only once, and for as close to 4 months as possible. Usually you will be in an area for 6 months so that is why you will only have about 4 areas.

They do give us a debit card, but because it charges you a 3 dollar fee just like my card, we withdraw all of our money and then use it throughout the month.  (Sure hope they don't get robbed or lose their wallets)

The best thing that happened this week was we gave three blessings yesterday and I got to give a haircut and will be practicing more. I want to get my own set of tools so I can get better, you can find some good ones here. It could be my way to find people to teach. Just give haircuts to everybody and then hopefully that breaks the ice and they will take lessons from us.

Ummm nothing really that weird happened this week. Well to you guys it might be weird. Breastfeeding just happens everywhere so you could be in a lesson and they just whip it out. It’s already happened either on the streets or in lessons already so it’s not weird to me anymore.

I have not eaten anything bad yet, but I’ve been eating a lot of ramen because we are waiting for next week to get more money. The problem is the church compensates your monthly payment the first month so I didn’t get the full amount so we are out of money but, we have a crap load of ramen. Ramen for us is our food storage because it is super cheap so we buy a couple boxes of ramen and if we happen to run out of money we have ramen. Good stuff! It’s the best! I get to wake up every morning and make some ramen! I get to sleep in my own bed my entire mission. It’s the best! (Nacho Libre reference for those in that loop)

The kids here are pretty darn cute but then you see what they could grow up into and it sometimes makes you depressed haha. That was kind of mean but it’s true.

Love you all, got to go.

  1. You are dead on about the "open air" nursing. Here too!
Running out of money....same here for the missionaries! Ramen....not here. It's tortillas and beans, sometimes chicken.
It's a treat for them when we have them over for a meal. The only time they get a fresh salad. Good thing I'm mostly a vegetarian!
